SingFest 2008
August 9, 2008
Okay I know this entry is super late but hey, at least I've gotten off my arse to get it done anyway. Ha!

SingFest '08 was pretty damned awesome! All thanks to Mel who very kindly offered tickets! 10,300 people attended, so we were really very heng to even get tickets. For free.
(Haha, sorry couldn't resist :P )

We got in real nice and early thanks once again to Mel. "Pick that spot over there. It's the best spot - there's shade and yet has a good view of the stage with easy access." Yay.

"I shall take a picture with the SingFest logo in the background!"

Damn! Missed.
Kwa kwa kwa....

Becks: "Come la, I take for you la..."
Nat: "Hmph, okay la!"
So there we were, sitting on our nice little patch of land, snacking on Sun Chips and Mamee Noodles, and drinking FIJI Water (thanks, Ivy!), when the floodgates were flung open...

and the hordes came...

...and continued coming...

...and freakin' invaded the entire lawn. BUT, it was okay, as long as we had our own little patch of land. Yes, the best spot with shade and good view of the stage and easy access.
Or so I thought.
When the band began, I craned my neck, ready to see the performers in action. But alas! All I saw was...

...an umbrella and ass...

...and more asses.

Great. So much for getting the best spot, huh?

Coupled with the fact that the sun was freakin' hot, and we were packed like sardines, it wasn't exactly a very nice spot to be in. However the music more than made up for that!

First up was Stacie Orrico, who was a really really good live performer. I went without expecting much from her, but came away impressed.

Next up was a dude called Jamie Scott. Hmm... he had a nice voice, but I think his music kinda brought the mood down a little. It's nice, but more to listen in the comfort of home rather than under the midday sun, y'know?

One Republic!!! Wah they are damn good. I like! My camera phone didn't manage to capture the other two members, so I replaced them with text. My bad. Oops.
Becks and I even got to meet and take a photo with them backstage! Awesomeness man. I don't have the pics though, cos' it wasn't my camera. Mel says she's sending it to 8 Days... Anyways, thanks for the awesomeness, babe! :)

When we came back, it was Jason Mraz's set. He was so good, there were fully-grown men shouting, "I love you, Jason!" Yes, really. He's that charismatic a performer.

Hot on the heels of Jason Mraz was Rick Astley aka Mambo Nite King. At least he was MNK to Mark, Boaz and Lorraine. To me, he was more like... um... a wannabe 80s porn star. He kept on punctuating every sentence with, "YEAH, BABY!"
By the end of his set, I was like, "Just kill me already." At which Rick said, "YEAH, BABY!" again. So I took a gun and shot him in the head. Kidding.

The Pussycat Dolls (aka PCD) provided a more welcome visual feast and pushed all the right "Buttons". Pity I was quite tired by then already.

Alicia Keys was another hot act that I was looking out for. She came on really really late though. And by then, my low-battery indicator was flashing and I wasn't able to enjoy her set that much. Damnit, I'm getting old.
Yeah, I know the pictures are REALLY small. I took them using my handphone camera, which obviously isn't good enough for capturing those long distance shots. In fact, all the performers were so tiny, I could have drawn in a stick figure and called him Justin Timberlake and it would have been equally believable!

Justin Timberlake was a special guest!!!
See what I mean? Haha. I need to buy a new camera. Any recommendations?
In the meantime though, check out more pictures on Becks' Blog!
