Birth of an iMac: Xiii
I swear computers have a soul. And just as we are possessive over our belongings, they are as possessive of their owners.
I'd been eyeing the 24" iMac for a while now, especially after hearing P and J rave about it. I figured that since my Macbook Pro sat on the desk most of the time, I could just get a Desktop as it was cheaper and more powerful. Of course, I would still keep the Macbook Pro around for mobility purposes, especially if I had to go overseas. I just can't do without a computer for long. Yes, I'm a geek.
However, when Marimiyo (my Macbook Pro) knew of my intention, she spitefully committed Harakiri.
Just as I was mid-conversation with one of my friends on MSN, doing the whole "should-I-buy-should-I-not-buy" thing, Marimiyo's LCD light started wavering, then deteriorated to an angry flicker, and then in a final huff of indignance, shut down on me.
Baby, you left me no choice.
I was just about ready to run out and buy a new computer. A quick call to Lobang Queen yielded this advice, "Hold on just a few more hours. I'll get a good price for you."
Well, okay, actually I was already out of the house when I called her (see, that's how gancheong I was!). Not content with turning round and taking the opposite train home, I decided to stay out and called various kakis to keep me company in my moment of distress. After all, what was I to do at home without a computer? It was like a scene out of a B-grade horror movie.
The next day, time could not pass more slowly. I played the piano, I exercised, I read the newspapers front-to-back-to-front, I watched TV, I even attempted to pack my room!
Finally, the hour came and I hurriedly rushed down to meet Lobang Queen. To cut a long story short, I finally got my 24" iMac, only after a lot of trouble and running around. But that didn't matter anymore. What mattered was that she was finally in my arms.
The date was 13th May, which is why I'm calling her Xiii (13 in Roman numerals). Below documents her birthing process...

The screen is breathtaking, man. It's already replaced my TV, and when I spin around in World of Warcraft (yes, I actually started again, argh...) I get dizzy!!!

If you are going by train, you can alight at Orchard MRT Station. Come out and walk down towards Wisma Atria and you will arrive at Civic Plaza...you probably will see loads of people/fans/supporters there as it is full-day event. You may want to look for the group that has Nat's banner....thatz where we are...haha

May 29th, 2008 at 9:12 am you know ihad the same experience. i decided several weeks ago to get the 24" iMac (newest version) and my desktop AND personal laptop decided to make life hell for the last few weeks. my vid card is acting up so i can't view pics on my desktop and my laptop is limping by. I think my work laptop just shrugged the whole thing off since it knows i will never be allowed to part with her. LOL
I'm jealous but I'll pick my 24 inches up this weekend.
