Chope

It has become some sort of a running joke to hear of people (usually “Aunties”) using packets of tissue paper to chope or reserve seats in crowded places such as foodcourts. But I’ve never really seen it in action, till yesterday when I went to a nearby foodcourt with K after the radio interview. Check this out:

I was totally amused, and so were many others.

You can only find this kind of thing in Singapore.

   February 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pm There are many more horrible 'chope' tales out there ! I have seen the use of brollies (or umbrellas), wooden chopsticks, bibles (which is very very wrong) and even got educated on the "chope" technique before. Apparently, you can block the entire row of vacant seats by placing one on each edge and all in the middle will be considered reserved !
